Career Details
Grant is a People and Culture specialist with over 30 years’ experience in organisational change, staff culture programs, workplace investigations, underperformance and disciplinary matters, recruitment and onboarding, workforce development (including skill development workshops), staff recognition and reward programs and enterprise agreement negotiations. Grant has extensive experience developing and implementing practical people solutions to enhance the delivery of strategic business priorities. He is an excellent communicator and influencer of people and has strong investigative and negotiation skills.
Grant joined Merit Solutions in 2022 as an Executive Consultant. Previously he held a range of executive level human resource positions in the Commonwealth Government, as well as in the private and not for profit sectors including with the Department of Senate, National Library of Australia, Australian National Training Authority, Masonic Care Queensland, Regis and Vacenti (aged care) along with more operational roles in both the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments. He has worked as part of the Senior Leadership Group in a number of organisations and has considerable governance experience reporting to the Board level. Grant has also provided a range of HR consultancy services to West Moreton Youth Detention Centre, Queensland Rail, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Loreto College and Gladstone Regional Council.
Recruitment and Selection, Shortlisting, Scribing
Grant has extensive experience in recruitment and selection ranging from the coordination and running of assessment centres for bulk intake programs, school-based traineeships programs through to executive level recruitment. He understands the importance of selecting the right person for the right job and the potential costs to a business/government that can arise from poor selection decisions. Grant has successfully managed end to end recruitment processes and has considerable experience developing interview questions, participating on selection panels, referee checks and writing selection reports. He is highly skilled at assessing people’s skill sets and their suitability against the inherent requirements of a position.
Learning and Development
Grant has expertise in the design and delivery of education programs targeting areas of skills deficit both at the group and individual level. He has worked with senior managers to enhance their staff management capacities and at a broader level providing group skill development solutions including the development of Learning Centres and Staff Orientation Programs. Working with managers in different sectors including government, Grant is skilled in coaching for performance and change, particularly in relation to the confident management of performance conversations.
Organisational Review and Culture Change
Grant has the demonstrated ability to tailor human resource solutions to deliver strategic business outcomes. He has successfully designed and implemented workforce strategies and policies that have transformed organisational performance and workforce culture. His work has resulted in higher staff engagement and morale, improved service delivery and reduced turnover and absenteeism.
Industrial Relations
Grant has successfully negotiated enterprise agreements and has extensive experience working with industrial and staff representative bodies. He is a strong, but calm negotiator who delivers quality results. He has managed significant staff redundancies programs, staff disciplinary matters and undertaken cost/benefit analysis for the outsourcing of service delivery. He has considerable knowledge and experience with work health and safety including injury management and staff rehabilitation. Grant has successfully implemented a number of HR systems including payroll and staff rostering.
